The client wished to have a “homepage refresh” and have a way to place their new branding video in the banner of the page. This presented a unique challenge because having a video automatically play in a banner is not good for bandwidth.
We decided to have a call-to-action to play the video in the banner that would open up in a lightbox once a user clicked on it. I implemented a few other UX considerations and client feedback and presented a fresh, colorful, user-friendly page that was eventually developed.
Homepage Banner
I made several adjustments to the banner on the homepage. As a requirement from the client, I included a call-to-action for users to watch the client’s new branded video. Once a user clicks the button, a lightbox will open so he can watch the video. This was a compromise that I made with the web developer who I was working with in order to maintain reasonable bandwidth speed.
Although I added the call-to-action for users to watch the video, the search form in the banner had to remain the prominent call-to-action in the banner. To increase the usability of the form, I condensed the form for users.
To add credibility to their brand, an awards section was added below the banner. This will help build trust with users unfamiliar with YES! Communities.

YES! Community’s Offerings
I broke out the information that was below the video in the original homepage, moved it below the banner and gave it hierarchy that better aligned with their brand (“Say YES! to Community”).
I also condensed the amount of information within each category to reduce the amount of text and improve readability. I replaced images with icons to add color to the page and improve focus on those elements. Eventually, the client decided to add a fourth category.

Brand Lifestyle Images
Rather than having two prominent videos on the homepage, I made the decision to move the second video and replace it with an image slider filled with lifestyle images. I also made some adjustments to the text content to make users feel more “excited” about joining YES! Communities.

News & Promotions Redesign
I redesigned the Community News and Promotions sections with more hierarchy to make the information easier for users to digest.
