B&K Smoke House is a popular barbecue destination located in an up-and-coming neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. A patron (and huge fan) of the restaurant realized that the aesthetic of his favorite smoke house couldn’t compete with the surrounding restaurants in the area. He took it upon himself to hire me to refresh their design.
Design Thinking
I incorporated B&K Smoke House’s original brand colors into my new design, but nothing else. I decided to essentially start over, because their original brand was not consistent across all platforms. I decided to go with a badge design, because it appeals to the aesthetic of the target market. I also incorporated several barbecue elements into the new logo.
Rather than using the entire logo on the menu, I created a “mini” logo that could be used for smaller collateral items. I designed the menu with strong type hierarchy to help guide customers through B&K’s offerings.
